From LCTV’s Lynn Uncovered series, Beyond Walls Underpass Lighting won best in Civic Engagement and Brian “Pistols” topped the Short Format category. A piece on local boxers training for the Olympic team won in Sports.
Staff members Mukala Kabongo & Koeun Neak attended the event. The duo was responsible for the winning entries, with Koeun producing the Lynn Uncovered episodes and both working on the boxing training video.
Currently Koeun is working on a new episode of Lynn Uncovered featuring Faces of Lynn creator Cinda Danh, which is due out soon. Mukala is producer for both our bi-weekly news show & “After The Whistle”, a weekly sports commentary show.
This awards ceremony was organized by MassAccess, a member-based advocacy group for community media centers in Massachusetts. MassAccess works to network centers with each other, help pass legislation intended to help improve services, and more. Lynn Community TV is a long-time member of this organization, and is proud to support their efforts.
The Awards were judged based on strict criteria, by third party evaluators who are top media professionals in the field. A winner is chosen from each category, along with an honorable mention. Kyle Draper of NBC Sports, host of Celtics Pre & PostGame Live, served as this year’s awards emcee. He is pictured to the left with Mukala after the event.
This brings our total awards count to 4 in under 1 year. The other award was a national one for our coverage of the 2017 Beyond Walls Mural Festival, produced by Davids Riley Jr. You can find out more about that award by reading our previous blog post.
These three winning entries from LCTV represent some of the best work to come out of our staff in 2018. We plan to continue to enter competitions on the national & regional levels with these and more entries, so stay tuned!
