MOVA Awards $2.7M to Fund Emergency Housing Services for Crime Victims during COVID-19 Pandemic

The Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance (MOVA) has announced $2,755,011.10 in emergency grant funding to provide housing stabilization services for victims of crime in response to challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Centerboard, The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) and 28 other victim service agencies received funding to provide critical services to victims facing housing instability through the remainder of the state fiscal year (June 30, 2021). This dedicated funding is essential to protect against displacement, loss of housing, and homelessness for victims of crime.

COVID-19 testing in Lynn this week

The City of Lynn was selected to be a part of the state’s “Stop the Spread” Initiative back in July of 2020. COVID-19 testing sites have been set up and are available for residents of Lynn to visit. Information about these testing sites are below.

PROJECT BEACON
Located at 398 Blossom St. in Lynn

The City of Lynn has been selected as one of four communities across the Commonwealth for a COVID-19 express testing site through at least March 31st. The site will be run by Project Beacon which specializes in high-volume appointment only testing.

Weekly COVID-19 numbers from Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health

Every week the MA Dept. of Public Health releases numbers for how COVID-19 has impacted the state, and we try to highlight some of these numbers so the community is informed about how COVID is impacting Lynn & the state. Their numbers factor in the past week as well as the week before, giving 2 weeks worth of data.

The City of Lynn is still a high-risk community, passing 15,000 total cases last Wednesday. Lynn currently has approx. 449 active cases, down from 1,100 cases last week, which is the lowest amount the city has seen since late October. The lowest number of active cases in Lynn was 278 back in early October, while the highest was approx. 2.2K in both mid-May 2020 & mid-January 2021. Lynn frequently set records for new 24-hour cases, but that hasn’t been broken since January 5th (210) & the number of new cases hasn’t been above 80 since Feb. 4th. The frequency of deaths in Lynn have also decreased, with only 21 deaths in January. Overallthe numbers are trending very well for Lynn, but there is concern a lack of vaccine availability and the coming warmer weather could cause a spike in cases. With those factors in mind it is still recommended to take COVID-19 seriously until you’ve been fully vaccinated, & even after to still mask up and distance for at least a little while to help mitigate the spread to ensure those that aren’t able to get the vaccine yet remain healthy.

Baker-Polito Administration Announces Vaccine Appointment Booking for Individuals Ages 65+, Individuals with 2+ Certain Medical Conditions to Begin on February 18th

Today, the Baker-Polito Administration announced individuals ages 65 and over and those with 2+ certain medical conditions, including Asthma, can visit www.mass.gov/covidvaccine to start booking an appointment for vaccine beginning tomorrow, February 18th.

With this announcement, almost 1 million individuals are newly eligible for vaccine.

Vaccination expanded to include caregivers for those 75+, tour of Lynn Tech vaccination site

Starting Thursday, Feb. 11th individuals accompanying a 75+ resident to their vaccination appointment at a mass vaccination location may also make an appointment to be vaccinated at the same location on the same day.
Over 50,000 appointments will be added to mass vaccination locations in the morning on Thursday, February 11th. Mass vaccination locations include Gillette Stadium, Fenway Park, the DoubleTree in Danvers, and the Eastfield Mall in Springfield.

With about 1.7K active cases the City of Lynn is still a high-risk community. We haven’t been under that many active cases since early December, and the current levels are only slightly better than the city’s peak active cases of approx. 2.2K in both mid-May 2020 & mid-January 2021. However, there are signs of hope. Lynn used to set records for new 24-hour cases frequently, but that hasn’t been broken since January 5th (210) & the number of new cases hasn’t been above 100 since Jan. 21st. The frequency of deaths in Lynn have decreased, with only 21 deaths in January.

 Lynn City Hall offering limited in-person services starting today

Residents and business owners seeking to make CASH PAYMENTS ONLY in person to the Collector’s Office, Parking Department, and Inspectional Services Department, may do so at City Hall during regular business hours starting on Wednesday, February 3rd.
Visitors may park in ALL SPACES in the Johnson Street Parking Lot until further notice. They can either wait in line outside of the Johnson Street entrance to City Hall or can wait in their car after providing the desk attendant with their phone number to secure a spot in the queue. Those who leave their phone number will be notified by the desk attendant when they are able to enter. We ask for your patience with anticipated wait times.
