What’s Cooking? | Chicken with Mustard Cream Sauce – Ep. 17

On this episode of  “What’s Cooking?” Chef Merry makes a chicken with a mustard cream sauce! This became a favorite in our house very quickly, making it at least monthly when we first discovered it. This sauce is incredibly tasty and easy. It’s also nice because you can pair it with rice, quinoa, pasta, or mashed potatoes.

This sauce calls for white wine, brandy, or chicken broth–and every time we go for the brandy. We make a note of it in the recipe below, but when working with alcohol you have to turn off the heat & be very careful when adding, or else you can cause a small fire. Other than that one step, the rest is easy and you can make a restaurant-quality dish in your own kitchen with minimal effort!

Please note that this is the one of several episodes filmed with Dave’s iPhone & minimal equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

What’s Cooking? | Weeknight Chili – Ep. 16

On this episode of  “What’s Cooking?” Chef Merry makes a chili you can make on a weeknight! This recipe is easy, but it still tastes absolutely fantastic. We previously made a cornbread recipe, found by clicking here, that we recommend you pair with this dish.

There’s only two of us, so this is a great recipe for us to have leftovers. You can even freeze the leftovers and heat them back up later for another easy weeknight meal. As of me typing this we actually made this a month ago and plan on having the rest next week…saving a little for chili dogs the next day.

Please note that this is the one of several episodes filmed with Dave’s iPhone & minimal equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is his hope to release videos every other week during the next month or two.

What’s Cooking? | Cornbread – Ep. 15

On this episode of  “What’s Cooking?” Chef Merry makes some cornbread. This is perhaps the simplest & quickest recipe we’ve done yet, and can be paired with many meals. We actually paired this with a chili, which will be shown in the next episode!

Many cornbread recipes will call for oil, but we decided to use butter instead to get a little extra flavor. We’ll also spread a little bit of butter on top before cutting into the cornbread. Essentially, we like butter with this.

Please note that this is the one of several episodes filmed with Dave’s iPhone & minimal equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is his hope to release videos every other week during the next month or two.

What’s Cooking? | Pasta in Secret Sauce – Ep. 14

On this episode of  “What’s Cooking?” Chef Merry makes a pasta sauce. This is a copycat recipe for an award-winning & very famous pasta sauce at Gino’s in NYC. When Gino’s closed in 2010 most of the recipe got out, and since then has been replicated a few different ways.

This sauce is incredible and easy, just time consuming. You can use pretty much whatever pasta you’d like, but something like rigatoni or penne would be best so that it catches the sauce.

Please note that this is the first of several episodes filmed with Dave’s iPhone & minimal equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is his hope to release videos every other week during the next month or two.

What’s Cooking? | Penne in vodka sauce – Ep. 13

On this episode of  “What’s Cooking?” Chef Dave made penne in vodka sauce! After the alcohol is cooked off the vodka adds an extra layer of flavor to the sauce.

People don’t typically cook with alcohol, but it is very easy to do. This also makes your pasta dish seem like it is restaurant quality, with only a small extra step.

For those that want to print & try this recipe you can take it from below.

What’s Cooking? | Buffalo Chicken Dip – Ep. 12

On this episode of  “What’s Cooking?” Chef Dave makes a buffalo chicken dip! At the time of posting the Super Bowl is this weekend, and chances are you or someone you know if going to a party.

You may be wondering what to bring, and one dish that can please a crowd is a buffalo chicken dip. You can’t beat this dip in terms of how easy it is and how delicious the end product is. It is very cheesy and the hot sauce adds only a little bit of heat, so even those that don’t like spicy foods could find themselves enjoying.

What’s Cooking? | Machine-less Homemade Ice Cream – Ep. 9

On this episode of  “What’s Cooking?” Chef Merry makes homemade ice cream (without a machine)! This is something that can be made with or without an ice cream maker, but ends up a delicious summer treat either way. You can even add in chocolate chips or some other tasty bits if you wish!

Without a machine this does take some time, but most of the time is spent waiting for the next step. If you have a machine you just don’t need to do the most time-consuming part (we tell you when in the recipe below).

If you’re around the house for an afternoon you can start the base the night before & tend to it the next day then relax with a nice bowl of homemade ice cream that night.

What’s Cooking? | Slow Cooker Carnitas – Ep. 8

On this episode of  “What’s Cooking?” Chef Merry makes slow cooker carnitas! This is definitely not a traditional carnitas dish, but works perfect if you want flavorful & tender pork with little work.

This can be left for either an afternoon or all-day in a slow cooker, and the end results won’t disappoint. This can be served a bunch of ways, we tend to have it as a burrito with some refried beans, rice, and cheese.
